It could be worse – that’s what Joachim thinks when he is considering the current state of things. Actually it suits him well, even if there was a time when he thought otherwise.
Yes, he was disappointed to learn that Jürgen won’t be working in
He props himself up on one elbow, looking at the man lying on the bed next to him. Jürgen is sleeping peacefully, his face half-hidden by the shadows. Clothes are thrown carelessly on the carpet beside the bed, Jürgen’s keychain is gleaming in the moonlight. A new keychain, a crest of ‘Stuttgart’, the one he’s got recently from someone, and whom – he doesn’t tell…
Yes, things could be worse. At least now he won’t have to worry that Jürgen will be having opportunity after opportunity to visit… To visit England.
Why England, he doesn’t know himself. This man – this someone who means to Jürgen so much can live in USA, can live in California, can live in Germany even, he doesn’t even know who this man is. But his inner voice keeps repeating: England. He is used to trusting his inner voice.
At least now Jürgen won’t have to visit England because of business, and the less he is there – the better.
Tracing softly the contours of Jürgen’s face with his fingertips, he thinks that things could be worse. If Jürgen started visiting Germany regularly it would mean that he himself wouldn’t need to find excuses every month to spend a couple of days nobody knows where, and if he suddenly stops disappearing like he does now it surely would raise suspicions. He already almost thought at one point that Daniela may be suspecting something, she’s always caring for him, motherhening him actually, and it’s annoying to say the least… He’s tired of her asking him about his work and his problems, though he understands that she just wants to be closer to him. But now he’s got enough problems without her.
It’s good that Jürgen will be spending most of the time in his California. On the golden sand, under the warm sun – and he chuckles softly because it’s the best scenery he can imagine for his lover – bright colors, warmth and freedom. That’s the place where he should be. Sure, it’s impossible to watch his every step and to know if he'll go to England someday, but at least it will be much easier to control now…
Yes, things could be much worse. At least the joke about his blonde grew old apparently, he doesn’t hear it anymore which pleases him immensely. He’s tired of it already.
Come to think of it – he’s tired of many things these days. It’s either he’s becoming much easier to annoy or that he is just that – tired. He’s got no patience for silly jokes and women that try to get into things they shouldn’t care about, and sometimes it’s hard to control his temper.
Working as the National Team coach is no good for the nerves – that’s what Jürgen said once, and oh how right he was.
But things could be worse. Now he is lying next to the man he loves, some hours after another round of passionate lovemaking, when Jürgen once again showed his knowledge in the ways two men can bring pleasure to each other. He feels a pang of anger when he tries to imagine where and with whom Jürgen could gather such experience…
Yes, now things will be much easier to control, and it is more than worth a couple of lost chances to walk the streets side by side without caring about who can recognize them. Such little things doesn’t matter. And he’ll watch Jürgen’s movements more carefully and won’t let things get out of hand.
He lowers his head to brush his lips gently over his lover’s temple.
- Joachim? – Jürgen is more asleep then awake judging by his voice.
- Hush, - he smiles. – Sleep. Everything’s alright.
Yes. Everything’s most definitely alright.
